Road Trip

Before you head off on adventure with your next road trip, it’s important to get your vehicle prepared for the trek. Use these three tips to make sure your vehicle is ready to hit the road.

  1. Look at the Tires

As the only part of your vehicle that is in direct contact with the road, your tires demand extra care. Check them for wear and tear, and replace them if there isn’t enough tread. To check the tread, use the Penny Test. Simply insert a penny head-first into several tread grooves. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head each time, you should think about replacing the tires.

  1. Check the Fluids

For your engine to operate, it needs several specific fluids and it’s important to maintain them at proper levels. Make sure you check the fluid levels of the motor oil, coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Look through your owner’s manual to determine the specific products to use for your vehicle.

  1. Examine the Battery

The last thing you want to experience is to be stranded in the middle of nowhere because your vehicle’s battery died. The battery powers everything electrical as well as the starter, so it’s important to know how much power it still has. You can use a multimeter to test the battery’s strength or bring it to an auto repair center to have a professional test it out.
